Cubes by: Mart van Iperen
Trying to combine two worlds is never easy. When I made ‘cubes’ I combined traditional carpentry with modern techniques. The inner structure is made with traditional methods and materials, and inspired by a traditional Dutch ‘kaaskast’(cheese cupboard). The legs were inspired by pencils, which I used for my scale model. The height between the shelves is (has been?) carefully
balanced to give a playful feeling.
The outer shell is made with modern techniques and material. Because all the squares are replaceable, I did some research in to biodegradable plastics for a more sustainable option. The final product was made with a sustainable multiplex with the FSC KEURMERK. It is made with Dutch forested Birch wood and laser cut for a perfect fit.
With a playful space between the squares. The contrast between the light-colored wood and the dark laser cut edges. Give it more depth and a light feeling. Made with 297 parts. It’s complex to fit together. The end result gives an open and airy feeling. to store your most treasured objects.
