Cathedral by Mart van Iperen

The chair was made following research into the ornaments used is cathedrals. Using
strong, long-lasting ash wood and steel, the chair has been made to resemble these cathedral
ornaments. This combination of materials and the contrast they create, result in the unique look of
this chair.

If space is limited, you need efficient furniture. Inspired by the shape of cathedral ornaments, this
chair has been made to be able to be fold-away. The folding mechanism was custom made with 40
hinges. This mechanism was developed after prototyping several hinges and looking into a way to
fold the chair as flat as possible, while still feeling solid and sturdy when being sat on. As a bonus, this
unique folding mechanism is intriguing to see in action.
